The Khankah and the Madrasha
The ruins of the buildings remaining within the 'Dargah Bari' of Sonargaon does not depict how vibrant and infamous was the Khankah and the Madrasha , established by Hazrat Sheik Sharf-Uddin Abu Tawama (RA) in the year 1275 AD.The great Moroccan world traveler 'Ibn Batua' told high about Hazrat Sheik Sharf-Uddin Abu Tawama (RA) and his Islamic institution in his travel book 'Rihala-e-Ibn Batuta', as the Madrasha achieved the status of Islami University at the contemporary world.

Deletekhanqah and madrissa were necessary part of sufi center of activity, first for sufi,s training in tasawwuff and second for learning of islamic teachings. To achieve both ends it is much possible that Hazrat Danishmand could have established khanqah and madrissa at dargah bari that his desendants continued to run after the death of the Saint in 1260.Hazrat Abu Tawama came to Sonargaon in 1274 or some time between 1282 and 1287.All his scholatic and scholarly activities, we find in Dargah Bari where Khanqah and Madrissa were already existed and run by his successors i.e.Sheikh Mehmood and Sheikh Yousf. Even after his death Hazrat Sheikh Sharfuddin Abu Tawama was burried before the mosulium of Hazrat Ibrahim Danishmand. It could be his will or his spiritual attachment with Hazrat danishmand.
